Well, this title is certainly not as appropriate as what grammar defines, but yes, it’s quite appealing. You got me right, appealing, and other synonyms to define this is interesting, catching, different, and many more. The thought of writing this article came to my mind after I attended the agile gamification session. I realized the world of agile is no different than your actual real world where your concerns are addressed without a word rather through visualization and translating them into the facts.
Now, let me relate this to the human behavior. We often express our happiness, anger or other emotions through gestures and accordingly this gets communicated through signs and symbols to say visually. The same goes in the world of agile where corporate or executives in the organization often don’t want to express their hindrances or impediments through words but would collectively address if given a platform through visualization. To say, the Agile gamification world is a unique way of getting your words visualized. There are many games designed which brings the true facts of the failed communication and difficulties to the stakeholders to draw the attention.
Agile games are played collectively and therefore the decisions are collective which further helps the organization to progress and make the anchors break for your ship to sail. It’s like Get, Set and Go.This was about gamification, but what about the game and the gamer.
The game is known to be the set of rules which players adhere. In the agile world, the game is the prerequisite which every team must follow to get into the agile world of gamification. To say a Retrospective, which every scrum team must do to identify their progress made and the rules are: Making sure the complete team with the Product owner, Scrum Master and the stakeholder participate to know where they are heading to, identify together what are the hindrances, what have they progressed on and what are their future challenges. This stands to be an eye opener to the stakeholders and the management to know the progress graph.
So, now who is the Gamer? The gamer is you, if you are reading this. Don’t be surprised. Indeed, it’s the fact, the game and gamification hold no existing without the team participating to deliver and understand their priorities. Everything and anything in the agile world revolves around the team that works hard to meet the deadline. All these shows and activities are put around the YOU factor, that’s the team to pave their path towards the progress. Nothing is magical in the agile and you have no magic wand to correct everything at a go, it takes a lot of precision in understanding the path of gamification and a mindset to put things right. A game is needed but a gamer is equally important, and the gamification world revolves around you (the gamer).
